Do not report child pornography or other potentially illegal content here; e-mail legal-reportswikimedia.org instead. If reporting threatened harm to self or others also email emergencywikimedia.org.

Requests for page protection/unprotection could also be requested here.	Other reports that require administrator assistance which do not fit in any of the previous three noticeboards may be reported here. Requests for history merging or splitting should be filed at COM:HMS.

Revision deletion request (EXIF metadata leak)

Hi there, the first upload of File:Aprilia RS 457.jpg unfortunately included EXIF metadata with GPS coordinates. A clean version is already uploaded, but the initial revision and the bot-generated copy of that revision still contain the private data. Could an admin please revision-delete both? Upcoming Deployment of the CampaignEvents Extension

Dear Wikimedia Commons admins,

Wikimedia Commons has been proposed as a project to receive the CampaignEvents extension. This extension includes features that can make it easier to organize events and activities on Wikimedia Commons. The Connection team has already posted an official announcement on the Village Pump, which has more details, and plans to deploy the extension by the week of September 15th.

As admins, your feedback and thoughts are especially important because this extension includes a new user right called "Event Organizer," which will be managed by you, Wikimedia Commons admins. This right gives users certain access, such as:

• Being able to mass email registered event participants (Event registration)
• Collect participant demographic data (Event registration)
• Generate invitation lists based on user contribution history (Invitation List)

This Event Organizer right gives admins the power to decide when and how the extension tools are used on the wikis. When the CampaignEvents extension is released on a wiki, the organizer-facing tools (Event Registration and Invitation List) can only be used if someone is granted the Event Organizer right, which is controlled by wiki admins. The only tool that is available immediately after release is the Collaboration List, which is a read-only page that lists events and WikiProjects that people can join.

To prepare, we suggest drafting a community policy outlining criteria for granting this right on Wikimedia Commons. Check Meta:Event organizers and Wikidata:Event organizers to see examples.

Template category browser default

There's a new feature in TemplateWizard: when searching for templates, it's possible to browse by category. The browser starts at a default category of Category:Templates, but for Commons this should be Category:Commons templates. Would someone mind setting MediaWiki:Templatedata-category-rootcat to Commons templates? (Although conceivably it could also be Commons templates by task or something similar if that's thought to be a better starting point. Users can always change it, and whatever they change it to will be remembered for their device.) There's more info about this feature at mw:Help:TemplateData/Template_discovery#Template_categories. Category:WhistleBowler

I'm not sure how Commons deals with categories like Category:WhistleBowler, but it kind of seems like a vanity category for the user accounts that is going to add no value to the project as a whole; in fact, there's a good chance that the category's creator is going to end up being the only user that's ever added to it. I didn't see anything in COM:CAT or COM:CSD about categories for user accounts. Is OK or should it be discussed at COM:CFD? -- Marchjuly (talk) 13:33, 23 August 2025 (UTC)
