Request your check
[edit]Hi Auntof6, I hope you are well :). I was just wondering if you could review my 6 most recent uploads to make sure I've categorised them properly? For a bit of background, the one photo outide the stadium is looking towards a section of the stadium called the Holte End, so I categorised it under "Holte End". Anyway no rush at all, and no worries if you don't have the time, but I would appreciate your experience. Your friend, IWI (talk) 23:33, 23 July 2025 (UTC)
- Someone has created a category that seems to have sorted this, thanks. IWI (talk) 20:09, 26 July 2025 (UTC)
- @ImprovedWikiImprovment: Oops, sorry, I lost track of your message. I just removed the football club category because it's already on the parent category. -- Auntof6 (talk) 22:53, 26 July 2025 (UTC)

Category:17th-century_books_from_Belgium has been listed at Commons:Categories for discussion so that the community can discuss ways in which it should be changed. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry. If you created this category, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for discussion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it. If the category is up for deletion because it has been superseded, consider the notion that although the category may be deleted, your hard work (which we all greatly appreciate) lives on in the new category. In all cases, please do not take the category discussion personally. It is never intended as such. Thank you! |

Why did you redirect this category to overly-complexly named Category:Clothed people by type of clothing instead of making it the parent of that category? What about non-clothing attire, e.g., belts, sunglasses, hats, &c? -- DanielPenfield (talk) 16:52, 29 July 2025 (UTC)
- @DanielPenfield: Because Category:People by clothing redirects to Category:Clothed people by type of clothing. I'd like to simplify that name, but I haven't (yet) been able to figure out the template that's used for most of what's in that category.
- As for belts, etc., those are categorized there, too, under Category:People with fashion accessories, although some of those categories have names like "People with" instead of "People wearing". -- Auntof6 (talk) 21:10, 29 July 2025 (UTC)
move 15 templates to new category name and refill the old category
[edit]Hello Auntof6, do you understand my request? I’ve changed it, so that only the content of the category shall be moved now, therefore the target category exists already. Would you also like to refill the old category after the move of the Cuba templates? The 3 subcategories and 3 templates for the Category:Category navigational templates for municipalities are now waiting for the templates’ move in the parent category:Category navigational templates for country subdivision.
I don’t know, it this is the smartest way to do it, but the 15 templates shouldn’t be all in two categories anymore, but only in one, they have also to be removed from Category:Category navigational templates for Cuba after the move of the templates by bot or however else. Or would you like to do this? If you want, you can also do all this manually with a tool (which I can’t use) instead of the bot. These are so many moves, therefore I’ve put it onto the bot request page. But the bot will not remove the templates out of Category:Category navigational templates for Cuba anyway, or can it also do something like that? Greetings —176.1.10.36 18:05, 29 July 2025 (UTC)

Mass category renaming
[edit]Hello, dear Auntof6. The category Category:Khatumo and all its subcategories will need to be renamed "Waqooyi Bari" since the state has had a rename. Is there anyone with tools, a bot or a script, or someone with knowledge thereof to do a mass rename? Or will it have to be done manually? ReneeWrites recommended me to ask you at village pump. Girligaanshub (talk) 10:36, 2 August 2025 (UTC)
- @Girligaanshub: I replied ta the Village pump. Let's keep the conversation there. :) -- Auntof6 (talk) 11:00, 2 August 2025 (UTC)
WCONT icons
[edit]Please explain why you declined the deletion of File:BSicon WCONTre.svg, File:BSicon WCONTr1.svg, File:BSicon WCONTl1.svg & File:BSicon WCONTfq!.svg (especially as the proper course of action would have been to convert them to a COM:DR). None of these are valid BSicon suffix combinations (which is why they were moved), and therefore could never be used in a diagram. Useddenim (talk) 13:35, 4 August 2025 (UTC)
- @Useddenim: Speedy deletion option G2 requires that the redirect be unused and implausible. Since I am not familiar with BSicon naming conventions, I didn't realize that they were implausible. I will delete them now.
- I will try to remember this in the future, but let me suggest using {{Bad name}} instead of the G2 option. That won't depend on the processing admin knowing what is a valid name and what isn't. Would that work? -- Auntof6 (talk) 14:56, 4 August 2025 (UTC)
- Yes, that would also work. Useddenim (talk) 15:12, 4 August 2025 (UTC)
Template:People wearing clothing/data
[edit]I think the capitalization is breaking the template. Permission to move the categories back to "islamic female clothing"? Trade (talk) 23:41, 6 August 2025 (UTC)
- @Trade: How is it breaking the template? Can you give me an example? The category names really need to have the word capitalized. -- Auntof6 (talk) 00:17, 7 August 2025 (UTC)
- The categories and template did not appeared when i tried until i changed it back. And the template is pointless if it doesnt actually link to the other categories Trade (talk) 00:20, 7 August 2025 (UTC)
- @Trade: Please be more specific. What is an example of a specific category that had a problem, and exactly what was the problem? I want to try to fix the templates instead of giving the categories incorrect names. -- Auntof6 (talk) 00:26, 7 August 2025 (UTC)
- Category:People wearing magenta islamic female clothing Trade (talk) 00:31, 7 August 2025 (UTC)
- @Trade: OK, go ahead and move the categories back to the lower-case spelling, and change the template back if needed. I'll try to fix it later. Thanks for catching this and sorry for the trouble. -- Auntof6 (talk) 00:41, 7 August 2025 (UTC)
- @Trade: Just be sure to do category moves. I see that you're creating some new categories. If the equivalents exist with upper case, those should be moved instead of creating new ones. If you need help with that, let me know. -- Auntof6 (talk) 01:09, 7 August 2025 (UTC)
- I'll rather wait to see if you find a fix before moving Trade (talk) 01:12, 7 August 2025 (UTC)
- @Trade: OK, but it could take me a while to figure that out, and I'm not going to start on it right now. I thought you were asking about undoing the changes I made (the change to the template and the category renames), which would put us back where we were. Did I misunderstand? -- Auntof6 (talk) 01:17, 7 August 2025 (UTC)
- @Trade: By the way, do we really have media for Islamic clothing in all those colors? Amazing! -- Auntof6 (talk) 01:19, 7 August 2025 (UTC)

Commons:Deletion requests/File:2025 9 Церковь Св. Ованеса, Мегри.jpg Well-read MountainMan (talk) 19:39, 15 August 2025 (UTC)
- @Well-read MountainMan: I think I advised you to use a speedy deletion request for these. Instead, you created some regular deletion requests. I'd prefer you to put speedy deletion requests on them so that it's documented in the history of the files (even if they are deleted). As long as the file is less than 7 days old and not used anywhere, you can use speedy deletion option G7: you would put
{{SD|G7}}
on each one. - Please stop creating regular deletions for these. You also don't need to keep pinging me about them. Thanks. -- Auntof6 (talk) 04:19, 16 August 2025 (UTC)
- Thank you, I understand Well-read MountainMan (talk) 07:27, 16 August 2025 (UTC)
- @Well-read MountainMan: One more thing: if what you want is to upload a different version of the same file, you can just upload the new version to the same title. You don't have to delete the existing one first. -- Auntof6 (talk) 04:22, 16 August 2025 (UTC)
Meta cat
[edit]Could I ask why Category:Faces on coins shouldn't contain only other categories? The vast majority of coins depict a face, so literally thousands upon thousands of coins would fit in that category, rendering it useless. I really don't know! Commons is a bit of a mystery to me. Cynwolfe (talk) 20:48, 21 August 2025 (UTC)
- @Cynwolfe: Hi, Cynwolfe. Thanks for your question. I'm always happy to talk about metacats.
- I removed the metacat template from Category:Faces on coins because it isn't a metacat. A metacat is a specific kind of cat-only category: it contains only subcategories that group different things that have something in common, and that common thing is indicated in the category name. An example is Category:Coins by subject. The word following "by" indicates the grouping. Each subcategory in Category:Coins by subject is for coins that have a certain subject shown on them. Category:Cities on coins is for any coins that depict a city. Category:Maps on coins is for any coins that depict a map.
- One more example: Category:Reliquaries by material. Each subcat there is for reliquaries made from a specified material: gold, ivory, horn, etc. Any reliquaries that are made from something that doesn't have a subcategory there would be in some other category until/unless someone makes a subcat for the other material.
- But there are other kinds of cat-only categories, such as the ones listed in Category:Categories requiring permanent diffusion to zero. If Category:Faces on coins isn't a metacat, could it be one of those? I don't think so. There would still need to be a reason for it not containing files, and I don't see one. For one thing, the subcategories there don't cover all the possible ways that a face could be depicted on a coin, so it would make sense for it to contain individual files. Yes, there could be a huge number of files, but you could find more ways to make subcategories (maybe faces looking left, faces looking right, human faces, animal faces... whatever). By the way, those "looking left" and "looking right" are usually from the viewer's point of view, not the point of view of the face depicted.
- By the way, if you're going to populate Category:Faces on coins, consider how it might fit in with things under Category:Human body on coins (for human faces, of course), Category:People on coins and Category:Animals on coins.
- I hope that helped. There are some other considerations with metacats, but this is probably enough for now. Feel free to ask for more when you're ready. -- Auntof6 (talk) 21:55, 21 August 2025 (UTC)
- Thanks! I'll look this over more carefully when I have a chance, but to be honest, I'm not really that interested in categorization as such. I'm just looking at coins of Gaul and Roman Gaul in the broader context of research I do both on en.WP and off, with a quirky sub-interest in French and British antiquarians and their amusing rivalries, and along the way trying to haul as many uncategorized coins as I can out of Gallica and Portable Antiquities, in case I want to locate them again more readily. I find that the "coins by subject" category isn't hugely helpful to me from a numismatic POV because it doesn't really follow academic typologies. So I fear that if someone wants to spend the rest of her life categorizing coins of the world by directionality of profile, that someone won't ever be me! Though I might be enticed by whether the bear faces right or left on coins of the Boii or something obscure like that. :) Thanks again. Cynwolfe (talk) 22:21, 21 August 2025 (UTC)
Re: Block message for recent vandal
[edit]Dear Auntof6,
Greetings, and thank you for your question. This is a Gadget and its name is“User Messages”. You can find the User Messages feature under Settings → Preferences → Gadgets. Please enable it, and then you will see the Notify this user button in the toolbar. Click “Select the template to be added to the user's page.”, search for the word “block”, and then choose the appropriate option such as “Blocked/Blocked indef”, etc., according to the situation. Then fill in the parameters:
If it is “Blocked”, the first parameter indicates the block duration (write indef for blocked indefinitely), and the second parameter indicates the block reason.
If it is “Blocked indefinitely”, there is only one parameter, which indicates the block reason.
If you encounter vandalism, you can also use this feature to send warnings—just search for “vandalism”, choose the appropriate warning level, and send it.
Then please click “Add template” button to send it.
You can also add a Template manually—for example, search for Template:Blocked and add it to the user’s talk page (for detailed instructions, please check the documentation of that template, and don’t forget to fill in the appropriate parameters), as I did in Special:diff/1075913511 (Please note that this template will automatically generate a section heading, so you don’t need to add a topic separately).
In addition, if a user is globally locked, you can place {{Indefblocked-global}}
on their user page for marking.
(My home wiki is zhwiki, and in the past month I have often helped administrators send block notifications, such as zh:Special:diff/88862153 so I am currently quite familiar with this process. :) )
That’s all. Sorry it took me a bit longer to explain—mainly because I am still a Chinese high school student who is learning English, so I used some tools in translation :P. Thank you for your understanding.
Finally, nice to meet you and best wishes for your anti-vandalism work!
Yours sincerely, ShuQizhe (talk) 14:04, 24 August 2025 (UTC)
- @ShuQizhe: Thank you very much! I will look at all the options available with that gadget. -- Auntof6 (talk) 19:27, 24 August 2025 (UTC)
